All aboard! The Signature Theatre Company revival of David Henry Hwang’s The Dance and the Railroad begins performances February 5 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre. Starring Ruy Iskandar and Yuekun Wu, the production is directed by May Adrales. The drama opens February 25 and will play a limited engagement through March 17 at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center.
Set in 1867 on a California mountaintop, The Dance and the Railroad is the story of Ma (Iskandar) and Lone (Wu), two Chinese workers who struggle through poverty and hunger to reconnect with the conditions of their homeland. The play originally premiered at the New Federal Theatre in 1981, before transferring to off-Broadway’s Public Theater.
The Dance and the Railroad includes set design by Mimi Lien, costume design by Jennifer Moeller, lighting design by Jiyoun Chang, sound design by Broken Chord Collective and music by Huang Ruo.
